My Awstats shows that I have average 30 unique visitors per day. That’s quite okay for me as I did not make any hard effort on promoting this blog, I don’t have much time for that because of work. What surprises me is, I do not get any legitimate comment at all, but spam. How did they get here ? I wonder.

Since my favorite topic is about Debian GNU Linux, I understand that the respond might be limited, or none at all. No problem with that, I can live with it. But spam, is beyond my tolerance, especially when I see those words like “viagra”, “gay”, “lesbian”, “porn”, and some sort. What can those people get, by spamming in one of my lowest visit rate post?

I did some readings again, for this issue. How do I stop this, when people kind of shit in my own playground. The answer is so obvious, wordpress has already shipped the solution with their standard wordpress download. It’s a plugin called Akismet, you should be able to see it on the first entry in your plugins page.

You will need to register a wordpress account in order for this plugin to work. It is again a free registration, and you will get a free blog space like http://yourblog.wordpress.com/ . Don’t you just love wordpress =) . After you’ve registered with wordpress, you will get your Wordpress.com API key. Simply enter that key during activation of Akismet plugin, and you are good to go.

I’ve been blocking hundreds of comment spam since then, IMO this plugin is much more convenient than others that use Captcha image text verification in comment input form. It has its own global database and by implementing this plugin, you will not trouble your readers for extra input when posting comments.
