I’ve been following up on this blog since a while ago. Just to check on their status of Linux Flash Player, because I’ve been having troubles browsing web pages with Flash 8 content. They(adobe) had no support on this version for Linux community. Finally, after almost a year with out Flash 8 plugin in my Firefox browser, they’ve released Flash Player 9 Beta. Linux is of course in the supported platform list.

I have not been able to test it on many sites after the installation. But as far as I concern, metacafe.com works fine with this player. So for linux users, no harm trying this release. Report any bug found to them, you should be familiar with the bug tracking process.

Here’s my installation process.

1. Get your copy of the tarball at this page. I chose the linux installer.
2. Extract the archive somewhere. There’s only one file you need to move around, libflashplayer.so. Move it into your browser’s plugins directory, for me it’s /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/.
3. Restart your browser, and browse around the web

That’s it with the installation, simple and easy. The adobe.com get flash page will not show you this release for linux, it still shows the stable 7.0.x Player.
