I’ve been following up on this blog since a while ago. Just to check on their status of Linux Flash Player, because I’ve been having troubles browsing web pages with Flash 8 content. They(adobe) had no support on this version for Linux community. Finally, after almost a year with out Flash 8 plugin in my Firefox browser, they’ve released Flash Player 9 Beta. Linux is of course in the supported platform list.
I have not been able to test it on many sites after the installation. But as far as I concern, metacafe.com works fine with this player. So for linux users, no harm trying this release. Report any bug found to them, you should be familiar with the bug tracking process.

This is my personal experience with chinese environment setup on my Debian Box, with KDE desktop. Here’s my specs.
- Debian Unstable, kernel 2.6.18-1-686
- xserver-xorg 7.1.0-4
- kde 3.5.5
Setting your system with english locales, so that your desktop, menus and programs’ file menus won’t show english characters in blurry chinese ttf fonts. You will still have the ability to input chinese in almost everything(browsers, konquerer, instant messengers, konsole, xchat and more).

Okay, right after I’ve bulk upgraded my debian packages, I couldn’t get my Thunderbird Mail Client to run. First I thought, maybe some bugged version upgrade again. I checked at my Kmenu, a name “Icedove” came into my attention. Icedove Mail Client? So I clicked on it to check out what on earth is that. Guess what, it’s Thunderbird! No difference I can tell with the previous version of thunderbird I had before upgrade.
So I was curious, tried to dig some information out of this. It seems that Mozilla foundation has enforced its Trademark Policy against Linux distributions that maintain/release Mozilla software suits (those you can easily get with your deb/rpm package manager). Various Linux distributions release their own security patches, and their own versioning method have made these releases “Unofficial”, according to Mozilla. So the names (Mozilla, Firefox, Thunderbird etc) and the logos cannot be used in these unofficial releases.
