Personal Security Tips

I have received a very informative forwarded email from Jimmy, thanks to him again. This email is written in both English and Mandarin, credit to the original poster. These tips are noted during a speech by Pat Malone, who was a body guard for famous figures like Farrah Fawcett and Sylvester Stallone. He also teaches hand-to-hand combat in various agencies.

Security has been always a major social issue in Malaysia, you read horrible news on a daily basis. I hope this forwarded email will help, at least to build more awareness around friends.

Synergy: Sharing Single Keyboard and Mouse Cross Platforms.

I’ve been wanting to do this, I can’t work comfortably with the laptop’s keypad, especially without numpad. Now this is one innovative open source program that needs some serious credit. Synergy, lets you share a single set of keyboard and mouse across multiple operating systems, namely, Windows, Linux and Mac.

Visit the download page here. On my desk, there are one IBM Thinkpad(Windows XP) and a PC(Debian GNU Linux). I’m going to share one set of logitech keyboard and mouse across these two machines.

Decide which machine to be the server. In my case, I’m going to choose Debian machine as the synergy server, no doubt. The IBM Thinkpad is going to be the client machine. Before you start, you should make sure that, all machines involved must have TCP/IP connections. In other word, local area network is needed.

WordPress Plugin: CompleteRSS, serving your RSS feed in full.

I used to serve my RSS feed in full text. In this way I personally think the readers will enjoy the information easier, without visiting the actual site for the full content. This is what RSS feed, and any other technology meant to be, to simplify things, to save time.

The problem is that ever since I’ve implemented the “more” tag for better front page sorting, my RSS feed is not able to serve in full text anymore. It inherits the “more” link in the feed, in where you set to trim the post. I’ve been looking for solution for this problem, and I’ve found one.

This is a WordPress plugin brought to you by Computer Guru. CompleteRSS is a plugin that allows you to serve your RSS feed in full HTML. Download page is here.

Simple Proxy Trick.

So the network administrator has been mean enough to ban your favorite sites in your office, school, hostel or even the entire country? You can tell them now Internet has no place for censorship.

First I heard that new government in Thailand has banned Youtube.com, and a fellow blogger Earl-Ku has confirmed that his blog is not accessible from China. What the hell is wrong with these people in power?

If my previous post was too much of hassle for you, read on and I have a simpler way for you to bypass unreasonable website blocking.

Thunderbird Extension: Remove Duplicate Messages

I’ve been a loyal Mozilla Thunderbird user. Mail, news and RSS are all in one place. First thing in the morning is checking Thunderbird. Recently a few blogs that I’ve been following are having this annoying issue. The RSS feeds are duplicated, Thunderbird fetches the feeds regardless of the message ID, so after a while, the duplicated messages can simply go over 10 entries per blog post. Deleting one by one is definitely not an ideal solution.

Again, after some google searches, I manged to dig out this nice extension for Thunderbird, Remove Duplicate Messages. Installing Thunderbird extension is a bit different than Firefox, the “Install Now” button will not work as error message “This extension is not compatible with Firefox” will pop up. What you need to do here is right click the link, and save the *.xpi file in your local drive. In Thunderbird, Tools -> Extensions -> Install, open the saved xpi file from there.
